In Memoriam: Tadao Takeno

He made significant contributions to the development of fundamental flame theories and models. The flame index, so-called Takeno Index, is widely used in combustion analysis. He also established, ahead of the world, a new research methodology, numerical experiment, that elucidates flame structure by precise numerical simulation using detailed chemical reaction mechanisms.

He served as an invited speaker in the 25^th Symposium (International) on Combustion. He also served as the Deputy Editor of Combustion and Flame. He was a member of the inaugural 2018 class of Fellows of The Combustion Institute.
